Children and Digital Media   Introducing Children to Digital Media in Preschool: A Smart Start In today's digital age, children are exposed to technology from an early age. As educators and caregivers, it is our responsibility to ensure that their first steps into the digital world are safe, educational, and balanced. Digital media can be a valuable tool in preschool settings, but it must be used thoughtfully. So how can we help young children navigate the digital landscape while fostering media literacy? Teaching Media Literacy in Early Childhood Education Media literacy is more than just knowing how to use a device. It involves understanding content, recognizing emotions, and developing critical thinking skills. In early childhood education, media literacy should be introduced in a playful, interactive, and guided manner. This helps children build a healthy relationship with digital media while encouraging creativity and social interaction (MLL, n.d.).Here are some engagin...

What is My Media Life Like?  Media has always been an integral part of my life, shaping how I see the world, connect with others, and entertain myself. Reflecting on my media journey brings back a kaleidoscope of memories—some delightful, others challenging, but all deeply personal. My earliest media memory takes me back to Sri Lanka, where I eagerly tuned into children's programs on a small television with my siblings. The joy of watching cartoons and the excitement of animated storytelling left a lasting impression on me. Later, as I grew, newspapers became a morning ritual in our household. The rustling of pages and the faint scent of ink became synonymous with staying informed. Humor and inspiration also found their way through media. From light-hearted viral videos that made me laugh uncontrollably to gripping documentaries that broadened my horizons, media has been a source of both joy and learning. Traditional Media in My Life I still value traditional media, though my consu...
Blog Theme 1: What is your media life like? Ques.1: Could you describe your media memories: What kind of experiences have been important, frightening, funny, interesting…. Can you recall your first media experience and the most interesting one? Ans.1: I genuinely feel that media does play an integral part in my life. In today’s time of globalization, where lines have blurred between countries as more and more people are going to foreign countries for education, jobs and exploring their hobbies, staying connected, informed, and updated is of paramount importance, especially to manage the mental and emotional wellbeing. It also gives me a kind of feeling that I am not missing out on to something, and I am very much alive, moving ahead at a same pace as this world is moving. As far as experiences are concerned, it is always mixed for me - frightening, funny, sad, and interesting depending upon the content you are engrossed in. However, I would say that being a very balanced and neutr...

Media  Media keeps me connected, inspired, and entertained. My journey with media began in my school days, watching movies with my sisters after school. It was our favorite way to relax and bond, creating memories that still make me smile. Facebook became my first social media experience, where I stayed in touch with friends—it felt so exciting! While I trust traditional media like TV and magazines for credible news, Instagram, YouTube, Netflix and Pinterest spark my creativity and keep me entertained. Apps like WhatsApp and Telegram help me stay close to loved ones and to be engaged.  I’m a balanced media user, drawn to interactive and visual content that inspires me daily. Media isn’t just a tool—it’s a source of joy, connection, and inspiration.

My Media life  One of my earliest media memories is using IMO as a child to talk to my dad, who lived abroad. Those calls meant the world to me, showing how media could connect people across distances.   Today, I no longer use traditional media like newspapers or TV. Instead, I rely on Google News for global updates and Routine of Nepal Banda page on Facebook for authentic news about Nepal. It’s quick, reliable, and keeps me connected to my roots.   Digital media is a big part of my life. I use Instagram, WhatsApp, and YouTube daily for entertainment, learning, and staying in touch. I also engage with online communities, especially for learning Finnish and exploring student life.   I wouldn’t call myself a heavy media user, but I value meaningful interactions more than just scrolling. Visual content appeals to me the most because it’s engaging and easy to understand. Media isn’t just a tool for me it’s how I stay informed, inspired, and connected every day.
