Children and Social Media

Overview of Children's Social Media Use

In recent years, the use of social media among children and teenagers has significantly increased. According to a 2022 study, 95% of teenagers aged 13-17 use social media, with one-third of them being online almost constantly. Even among children aged 8-12, up to 40% are using social media, despite age restrictions.

Social media has both positive and negative impacts on children. On the positive side, it helps them stay connected with friends and family, and provides access to information and entertainment. However, excessive use can lead to negative effects such as lower self-esteem, increased anxiety, and depression. Social comparison on social media can make children feel dissatisfied and inferior.

  2. Collaboration and Communication: Social media allows students to collaborate on projects and communicate with their peers and teachers outside of the classroom. This can foster a sense of community and improve their teamwork skills

  3. Creativity and Innovation: Platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Pinterest enable students to showcase their creativity through various forms of content creation. This can encourage them to think outside the box and develop innovative ideas
